All lugs are of the same size for shafts of 3" diameter and larger, this means that any type of lug can be retrofitted if conditions change. The large area lug base rests on the bladder and translates the air pressure of 90 psi. to the smaller area of the lug surface, giving tremendous grip.
All torque and grip figures are calculated at 90 psi.
The standard lug for 3" dia. shafts is made from heat treated aluminum for good wear resistance and light weight. This is the lug that would be provided if no other specifications are supplied, assuming that the majority of the cores are of paper fibre construction.
Polyurethane lugs are available for all size shafts and are standard on all sizes except 3" diameter. The main reason for the use of Polyurethane is to use its better grip on hard cores such as any metallic or plastic core. It can of course be used for fiber cores, however because of the softer bases it is very important to use 90 psi. in the shaft so that good grip is maintained. The higher co-efficient of friction of polyurethane is the important factor its use with hard cores, allowing better torque transfer.
Steel lugs lugs are available for tough applications, especially when steel ended cores are used. They of course are the heaviest of the lugs, and do increase the shafts weight.
When ordering lugs for a WEBANCOR air shaft please make sure that you have the serial number available this makes sure that we supply lugs for the correct wall thickness of shaft. Aluminum lugs will be provided if the original shaft had aluminum lugs, and unless another type has been requested.
WEBANCOR can supply polyurethane lugs for other makes of shafts if a sample, or drawing is supplied. We then make a mold for that size, a mold charge will be necessary if we do not already have the mold. This is good if the original manufacture cannot supply them, for your shaft.
